Doesn't seem to be necessary, I can reproduce without this step.
that might help in my working copy but unfortunately I can't push
it
right now as sourceforge git access isn't working.
Sourceforge apparently is doing some migration, the webpage is
inaccessible right now. (With an informative error message.)
