Hear, hear. Trouble is, most distros are doing just that. OTOH, this
is probably the most effective way to debug Wayland.
Except that Allin said "work in progress on the gtk3 side". Personally I
think that this is mostly bad news for us, given my perception of the
speed at which gtk(3) is progressing. Of course it's good that it isn't
causing any work for the gretl project, but OTOH I would be more
optimistic about a quick(er) solution if Allin had to provide it...
On a more constructive note, maybe it would be useful to collect a list
of Linux distros and flavors where gretl / gtk3 / Wayland works without
problems and where there are known issues.
