this is with the June-16 snapshot. I had told gretl to look for
function packages in some additional directory, and these packages

In other words, starting a new gretl "session" seems to erase the
package location memory. Is that a bug or a feature?
It's not a question of erasure, rather there's no mechanism in place
to remember an ad-hoc directory that has been added to the function
files listing on a previous occasion -- whether or not a new session
is opened. We search a number of plausible places to find gfn files,
but adding another place to that list is a one-time thing.
However, the current behavior whereby the window showing function
files gets closed automatically when a new dataset is opened may
be debatable. Perhaps it ought to be on the short list of exempt
windows.
