I agree, this is so much better than it was before. It basically goes
with all other applications (eg browsers), in which adding some extra
functionality is something that you do in the menu area where you set
things up.
Perhaps someone could go through the documentation (ie, the Command
Reference and the User's Guide) and find all the places where the
Function menu was advertised, so we can change that. That's a time
consuming task that anyone could do, and would free some time for Allin
and myself.
Ok, I guess I could do that, hopefully tomorrow (along with the
translation update which I haven't gotten around to yet).
Also, the change will have to be displayed as conspicuously as possible
in the Changelog, in the announcement etc.
Since "nobody" reads these except perhaps ex post, here's a new idea:
Why not include the release notes under the help menu? The idea would be
that gretl users with some experience stumble over a change ("where are
all my function packages, I cannot find them under the File menu"),
select release notes from the help menu, and get the hint ("in this
release we moved the function packages to the tools menu"). This would
all be self-contained without the need for an internet connection etc.
thanks,
