Setting up a mechanism for semi-automating the translations of function packages, in the same way as we do for menus, would be a lot of work and we simply don't have the manpower for that. A compromise we agreed on is that localised versions of function packages can be distributed privately. For example, suppose you write a package called "foo.gfn": the version distributed via the gretl server should be English-only. However, nothing stops you from preparing a functonally equivalent "foo_zh.gfn" package in Chinese that you can distribute to your students or make available on a website.
