As I say, this is a first step. I have not yet done anything
about automatically changing workdir based on the last directory
visited via the file open/save dialog. I'm not sure that's a good
idea, though it's open for discussion.
I agree it's better not to rush it and think it through thoroughly. For
example, maybe it would be better to expand the use of the existing
"currdir" thing instead of constantly updating workdir. But I guess many
backward-compatibility issues linger there...
