Hi,
in short: --cluster=period works as announced, but with two-way
clustering --cluster=period,unit doesn't work, one has to create a
series mimicking the period (e.g., genr time).
I guess this is an oversight and not intended.
Also, Allin, off-list you said that "set panel_robust driscoll_kraay"
now is a further option, but with yesterdays's snapshot I'm getting an
invalid value error. Is this in a different branch or not pushed or
something?

It's not intended as such, but neither is it just an oversight. It's
not easy to combine an automatic structural feature with an explicit
series, given that many panels are unbalanced. But maybe we can find
a way of doing it.

Exactly - but my question is what happened to the driscoll_kraay thing
you mentioned a couple of weeks ago? Did it not work out, was just
experimental, or something else?

Driscoll-Kraay is "scc" (spatial correlation consistent).
"discoll_kraay" seemed too fiddly to type. It's all documented in the
Guide.

I'm seeing no such problem with a freshly installed X13as on Windows 11
in conjunction with gretl. If you tell me more details (which program
version exactly, what specification is being executed, etc. etc.) I can
try those as well.

Thanks for the report, Francesca. I tested on Windows 11 today, and
both x13as and tramo/seats were working OK for me. However, I see
something that could be a problem. The DLLs required by those extra
programs (namely, libgfortran-5.dll and libgcc_s_seh-1.dll) are
supplied in the gretl installation directory, typically C:\Program
Files\gretl. But the extra programs install into their own parallel
subdirectories under Program Files, and I guess it's not guaranteed
that they'll find the DLLs they need.
I think the DLLs will be found if the gretl installation directory is
in the Windows PATH. When you run the gretl installer there's a
check-box option to add the gretl directory to PATH (not selected by
default). It might be worth reinstalling gretl with that option
selected. Alternatively, one could add the gretl directory to PATH
manually, as explained at
https://www.architectryan.com/2018/03/17/add-to-the-path-on-windows-10/
But I'll look into this further and see if there's a reliable way of
ensuring that the DLLS are found.

I just tried installing a copy of 2023b on a windows machine, and I
noticed that (contrary to what my understanding was) the tickbox for
adding the gretl dir to the PATH was on by default.
We have discussed this problem yesterday at a developer meeting, and
Allin gave very good reasons why in a standard installation the default
should be "off": basically, we don't want other programs to be disturbed
by different versions of the same DLL that come with gretl.
It is possible that this setting is memorised somewhere in the windows
registry (or whatever it's called), because the PC I used already had a
previous version of gretl installed, for which the path setting could
have been originally set to "on".
