Hi all,
based on Ignacio's existing document for the last conference I have put
together a first draft of the call for papers, attached. (I hope it goes
through the list as it's <200KB here.)
Please check the contents of the call in general, for example if the
described idea of the "coding sprint" is appropriate and practical, and
the dates given in general. This general check would be especially
important for the central players Ioannis and Allin.
Also there are some "fixme" places in the document with some of your
names; so Jack, Oleh, and Ignacio, please respond whether the respective
part of the document should be changed or if it is OK.
It would be nice if you could answer before the holidays.

I had also been thinking (independently) that I could use the Xmas period
to upload new packages for MGARCH models and some micro stuff.
There's only one thing I'd like to add, but I don't know if at all
possible.
A huge incentive for people to submit papers to conferences is that they
have a better chance to get published in a decent journal, or at least end
up in a "proceedings" volume. Ignacio had this set up for the Bilbao
Conference, I remember. Can we do anything similar? I'm pretty sure this
would boost participation.

I don't know -- as you remember I was too lazy to put something like
that together for the last conference, so I don't have any experience there.

This all looks good to me, Sven. I like Jack's idea of putting
together a proceedings volume if that's feasible.
A couple of tiny things: in the listing of new functionality,
"BFGSmaxc" should be "BFGScmax"; and (not in your text, but) I notice
that at www.gretlconference.org the "gretl" link is actually a
"wayback" reference to the gretl site as of 2013 -- it should just
point to gretl.sourceforge.net, I suppose.
I've updated index_pat.html in git to refer to the 2017 conference,
but I'll defer uploading the new page until the conference site has
the 2017 material.

Ah, you're talking about the second paragraph with "gretl". Ignacio, I'd
just remove the link altogether, since the generic link to gretl.sf.net
appears just one line before.

Here's an updated draft call.
I have removed most fixmes given the feedback I received. I haven't
heard from Oleh -- can anybody else confirm (or correct) the statement
about computing marginal effects for many (micro) models? (What I mean
is that AFAICS most of Oleh's packages in the last months/years can be
summarized by providing a variety of marginal effect calculations.)
I have also added a note on Ioannis' University of Patras, which I think
must be mentioned. Ioannis, see the fixme there; I have written "team",
but I could also put your name there directly if that is closer to the
truth.

I have removed most fixmes given the feedback I received. I haven't heard
from Oleh -- can anybody else confirm (or correct) the statement about

providing a variety of marginal effect calculations.)

In principle, yeah. But then, nobody expects a very high rejection rate, I
suppose. Of course, in the unlikely event we're flooded by
top-quality submissions, that may become a problem...

at least one time-series guy, one micro guy, one macro guy... etc

And here it is, the next-round draft version. It's a RC without any
explicit fixmes anymore. Feel free to use it -- and I guess we should
start distributing it, say, tomorrow? (with a different file name for sure).

BTW, given that the conference as well as some of the people involved
are in orthodox areas, I meant the holidays according to the
Latin/Western/Gregorian calendar ;-)
