Hi Johannes,
I am the current German translator and it's great to receive such
suggestions. I don't remember whether those specific translations were
done by my predecessor or myself, but that doesn't matter.
What I would like to ask you, though, is to check if there are more
occurrences of this pattern "no such thing/object/whatever" in the po
file. I would like to have a recurring pattern in English also
translated with the same pattern in German. Or perhaps you have already
checked that?
Then the part with
msgid "'%s': no such list"
-msgstr "'%s': keine solche Matrix"
+msgstr "'%s': Matrix nicht vorhanden"
looks suspicious, maybe a wrong translation in place? Or perhaps was
that a translation marked as "fuzzy" which was just autogenerated and
not really used so far?
Hi Sven,
thanks for your positive feedback! I didn't check the original string
properly but just used the German one. I think it would be more
appropriate to use "Liste" for list, or?
I tried to find all these constructions with "no such" and I also looked
for the use of "solche" which is now only used in three instances like
the following:
#: gui2/library.c:1860
msgid ""
"The dataset has no observation markers.\n"
"Add some from file now?"
msgstr ""
"Datensatz hat keine Beobachtungskennzeichner.\n"
"Jetzt solche von Datei hinzufügen?"
Doesn't sound so nice, but couldn't come up with something better.
All the best,
Johannes
BTW, the original English string "H0: all groups have unit root" also
doesn't sound super nice to my foreign-speaker ear, but I leave it to
the natives to judge that...
thanks,
sven
