But I found some minor issues:
(1) You can't create more than 16 tabs;
(2) If you try to create more than 16 tabs Gretl doesn't allow us to close
one of them properly (take a look at the "imagem 1" attached);
(3) In that situation, if you minimize the window and restore it again the
icons disappear ("imagem 2" attached).
Finally, one more issue that is not related with the tabs... On the "About
Gretl Window" the build date has a small error ("imagem 3" attached).

I agree, but I think it would be good to introduce a warning message in
this situation.

No indeed. But the behavior of the editor with lots of tabs
should now be better in CVS and snapshots. (It should be
scrollable left-to-right, and should have a popup menu to
select a tab if there are more than 5 tabs.)

Me too. I like tabs.
A few other features I'd like to have:
a) Alt+1 to go to the first tab, Alt+2 to the second etc; that's what you
have in firefox and chrome, which is very handy IMO
b) A little asterisk near the tab name to indicate "modified but not
saved"
c) a key combo (eg Ctrl-shift-T or so) to open a new tab.
Apart from these little things, I'm loving it.

Hi Allin,
In Windows, the code within a tab doesn't execute for some reason. Also,
when I saved a tab that had the focus, it overwrote the other tab that I
had open. Anyone else with windows, tried this yet?

included in the gretl package for Windows. That sounds like a
GTK-on-Windows bug that may have been fixed by now. The icons
behave properly on Linux with GTK 2.24.

I am not sure what is my version of GTK, the gretl configure script says
"Build with GTK version: 2.0" but I am seeing in synaptic
libgtk2.0-0 version 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1

included in the gretl package for Windows. That sounds like a
GTK-on-Windows bug that may have been fixed by now. The icons
behave properly on Linux with GTK 2.24.

Just a suggestion for the new tab-feature,
In firefox one can switch (one-way) between the tabs simply by Ctrl+Tab
which is very convenient since one doesn't need to use the mouse extra.

Thanks for the report. Then maybe the current code is doing
something that is not guaranteed to work properly, but happens
to work under some conditions. I'll take another look.

Dear Professor Cottrell,
Thanks very much indeed for this functionality. Just a small
suggestion: Would it be possible (or easy) to add double clicking to
the right of the last tab to automatically create a new empty one,
a-la-firefox?
Also, since (as you have pointed out before) one may need to put 2
script windows side-by-side for comparison. As a result, it would
really be great to be able to drag out a tabbed script as a window and
dock it back to have multiple dockable script windows/tabs.
Finally, this could be extremely useful for model windows too,
especially if my second suggestion is doable. Sometimes I find myself
with dozens of open model windows and I cannot even find the two to
compare so tabs are really really a lifesaver.
Again huge kudos for the tireless effort to make gretl the best ever
econometrics program both scripting and GUI wise.
