Because it is easy to store the IRFs in a matrix and use the cum() command - at least via
script. But true enough not via the gui.

BTW, coming back to the topic of the thread, Jack has this patch that
fixes a bug in SVAR. I still have to test it, I was distracted for
example by the other bug that now has lead to the imminent release.
Hopefully I can test tomorrow, and then it would be nice if it could be
in the release, too.

As Jack says, try SVAR in the meantime. But I did say "pressing",
and to my knowledge nobody has even mentioned cumulative IRFs as
something that might be missing until today. ;-)

learn SVAR syntax.
So, my question was simply for yes/no answer
temporary or persistent?
In the last case I will simply write
a simplified wrapper to SVAR for them

When was the last time that you looked at the SVAR addon? Jack and I
have fairly recently invested some effort to make the GUI more
accessible (released with 1.10.2 I think).

I think you mean by "it", the absence of an option to produce
cumulative IRFs via the gretl built-in "var" command. If that is so,
then it is "temporary" (that is, such an option will be added in
future) if and only if there's a reasonably strong demand for that
option.
I may be missing something, but I think your query today is the
first I've heard of any demand for IRFs other than what we already
offer, so at this point I'm not sure if "it" is "temporary" or
not.
If you think this is an important omission, please file a feature
request on sourceforge.

I have experienced some cases when they were
implemented. Some may be not.
I do not know before.
If this one is not actual for sufficient number of
users - I should find a personal way around.
If I would insist it could be too selfish.
