Hi,
the list is pretty quiet, so there don't seem to be many newly
discovered bugs, but of course that doesn't mean that nothing happens
behind the scenes. But may I ask: what is holding up the release of
1.9.6? It would be useful after half a year, I think.

True. gretl 1.9.6 was released today (I posted to gretl-announce,
but maybe should have copied here).
What held things up was my attempt to build a new GTK framework for
Mac OS X that would work for all the variants of that OS that gretl
has supported to date, plus Lion. Not possible, I finally concluded.
So I've added an alternative GTK framework that works fine on 10.6
(and I believe 10.7), i386 only. See the gretl for OS X page for
details.

I can't test the default Ubuntu 11.10 package right now, because those
systems already have cvs gretl on them. But if there are no problems
(anymore), maybe the information on the homepage about the 11.04
problems could be updated. For example, it would be interesting if the
11.04 package also runs on 11.10. Can anybody test this?

warning on the gretl site still applies, but it would
certainly be nice to get rid of the message if it's out of
date.

Actually I think I meant "if the 11.10 package runs on 11.04".

Hmm, I stand corrected. I thought all the N.04's were LTS but
maybe that's true only for even N?

Hmm, I stand corrected. I thought all the N.04's were LTS but maybe

I updated my laptop from 11.04 to 11.10 and installed gretl from
"Ubuntu software center". This installs gretl 1.9.5 (build date
2011-09-11) and I see it runs without any problem. (Gnuplot is version
4.4.3)
