Hello,
I am using the GRETL 1.9.13 64 bit build date 2013-10-24 on WIN 7 64 bit. I am trying to
import a SAS XPORT file. It is big, so I only include a link here

However, Gretl crashes when I try to import the XPORT file through the GUI.

I suspect it's being killed by the OS for consuming too much RAM.
There's a lot of data there (380 MB) but it ought to be readable
given a few GB of RAM. Our heuristic for determining the number of
observations (something that is not at all obvious in an XPORT file)
is in this case grossly overstating the number, leading gretl to
request an exorbitant amount of memory. I'll look into it.

I did attempt to open the file, both in GUI and in cli. All 3.6GB RAM and
3.8GB Swap were used.
System is centOS 64bit - Intel Core i5 (quad core).

I suspect it's being killed by the OS for consuming too much RAM.
There's a lot of data there (380 MB) but it ought to be readable
given a few GB of RAM. Our heuristic for determining the number of
observations (something that is not at all obvious in an XPORT file)
is in this case grossly overstating the number, leading gretl to
request an exorbitant amount of memory. I'll look into it.

So has my home machine. With some changes just committed to CVS
gretl will read the SAS file OK (or at least I think so, though I
don't know exactly what the data should look like).
