Dear gretl developers, If possible, I would like to see the following features included in gretl and available form the GUI, to make it more usable: Univariate tests: *Z-test of means for paired data *McNemars test *Kruskal-Wallis test *Friedman's test *Jonckheere-Terpstra test For duration data: *Kaplan-Meier curves plot *log-rank test *Cox regression Regression models: *conditional logistic (logit) regression *generalized estimating equations *generalized linear mixed models Any chances of any of these being included? python foreign problems

Hi, ok I'm really sorry that adding Python support now leads to additional bugs and problems, but I hope these are just toothing pains: First, a prelim question: In the gretl_io.py file that gretl writes out, why use this function <python> def gretl_dotdir(): dotdir = "C:/Users/svenne/AppData/Roaming/gretl/" return dotdir </python> instead of just a plain string definition 'gretl_dotdir = "<whatever>"'? Secondly, in the 'gretl_export()' function (also in gretl_io.py) the seemingly innocuous line 'r, c = M.shape' might be problematic for vectors (given the next issue this is currently hard to test, but I will). The point is that in numpy vectors may be represented as 1-dim-arrays; their 'shape' tuple will be '(n,)' and thus have only length one. I guess there are two solutions; either do a check like 'len(M.shape)==1', or force M to be a numpy-matrix which is guaranteed to be 2-dim like gretl matrices. Let me test and then think about it. Third, a real problem: The gretltmp.py file written by gretl does not preserve the indentation from within gretl's foreign block! Since Python uses indentation/whitespace as a syntax element, this is completely broken. Allin, your example in ch. 39 doesn't have any indented blocks it seems, and so you didn't notice. BTW, this is on Windows 8, haven't tested on Linux yet. And finally, another indentation-related less severe problem: gretl's script editor's on-the-fly indentation is a little annoying when writing in Python because it does it wrong (understandably). Could this be somehow turned off inside foreign blocks? Thanks, Sven

minuscule po issues

Hi, after a long delay, I have just updated the German po file de.po, also cleaning up some older (German-specific) stuff. During the editing, the following things occurred to me: * the entries often talk of "gretl script", where "hansl" could be used * there are the different formulations "R commands" vs. "Ox program" vs. "Octave [or Python] script", which AFAICS all mean the same thing, maybe unify * the entry "add var" sounds just a little sloppy * [pedantic:] In the window titles of the pattern "gretl: ...", sometimes it continues in uppercase, sometimes lowercase * Not po-related: In the main window in the button bar the button for accessing all other open gretl windows shouldn't be in the middle (IMHO), but on the very left or very right instead. modify model and subsample

I am seeing a problem with models saved in the session icon view and subsamples. From the GUI open a data file with a full sample of e.g. 2000 obs. and run a first OLS (hsk in my case) command with 1-1000 obs and a second OLS with 1001-2000 saving them to the session. Now with with a the current sample being the last one, 1001-2000, go to the icon view and open the first model. In the model window select Edit/Modify model and remove a regresor, then the new model is not estimated with its corresponding sample 1-1000, but with the current sample 1001-2000. 1.#QNB

Hi, I noticed in the context of forecast evaluation statistics that gretl prints "1.#QNB" for some unavailable numbers on Windows (recent snapshot), whereas on Linux it prints "nan". Don't know if that's intenden/normal. Thanks, sven

some new (?) issues

Hi, I noticed the following things: 1. I had gretl crash (on a recent cvs version, Linux I think), when I changed the search string in the replace dialog (referring to a search in the script editor) and re-searched. Sorry, this is hard to replicate. It could have been whilee the old search term was still marked in the text, in case this matters. 2. The term 'funcerr' is not in the online command ref, not sure if it should be. 3. In the online command or function ref navigation keys (page-down etc.) don't work. 4. If a variable 'whatever' doesn't exist but '@whatever' is found, gretl should complain IMHO (right now it just uses it verbatim). thanks, sven
