Ermm, due to a stupid typo on my part, when I thought I was testing
this change on all the existing function packages this afternoon I was
in fact doing no such thing. Jack has now corrected the typo, and on
re-testing I find that actually our change in its current form breaks
a few packages.
I'm confident we can get this right before long, but for the moment
I've reverted the change. We'll get back to you when it's really ready
for more general testing. Sorry about that!
