It is just this single line which leads to a crash and no error message
here on windows. So it seems this is comes from the fact that no argument
is linked to %s.
Did you try it on windows as well?

Is there some context we're missing here? In your script, was there a line
following the "printf" command, and if so what was it?
If I try this, just as stated, with current CVS I get the expected error
message, "Command has insufficient arguments".
