I think what Sven was talking about (and what I had in mind
myself, a little vaguely) was the possibility that gretl itself
might use the descriptive label for an automatically generated
variable to recognize the nature of that variable under some
circumstances. In that case having the labels locale-dependent
would destroy portability. However, the labels for which you
suggested translation are not used in that way by gretl, so I
think we're OK.
