Hi,
simple code:

All works fine, but if we now open the Model in GUI and type "Analysis
-> Forecasts...' we get error: "command 'fcasterr' not
recognized".

Thanks, Marcin. That was fallout from removing the long-deprecated
alias "fcasterr" for "fcast". Now fixed in CVS. Glad you spotted it!

New subject: small bug in opening a file?
I was preparing an introduction to hansl for my students and I was
thinking of a simple way to introduce a few data.
I remembered that putting the variables in columns in a text file (with
extension .dat or .txt), gretl open them quite easily. And I have
experimented a little with it, but I found something weird (on ubuntu
12.04 with unity, and gretl from current CVS):
1) right-cliking on the file and selecting "open with" and then
"gretl",
the file is directly open. No problem.
2) from a terminal, if I use the command "gretlcli file.dat" or in
interactive way "gretlcli" and "open file.dat" the file is also
directly
opened without problem
3) opening first the gretl GUI, if you have done 1) first and gretl
remembers the file in the recently open files list you will have no
problem,
4) but from the GUI, opening the file through '/File/Open data/User
file' I obtain the error
xmlParseFile failed on /home/ignacio/gretl/file.dat
If I call the gui from a terminal, gretl is reporting this error on the
terminal screen:
/home/ignacio/gretl/file.dat:1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<'
not found

I think that, since it's a text file, you should use the "Import" GUI
sub-menu instead.
Yes, but I wonder why it is so "complicated" when in the CLI only with
"open file.dat" all runs smoothly. It seems there is some asymetry
between the GUI and the CLI in opening files.

Fair point. I think the GUI menu set-up dates back to a time when we
weren't so clever at detecting data file types and acting accordingly.
Maybe we should simplify it.

Fair point. I think the GUI menu set-up dates back to a time when we weren't
so clever at detecting data file types and acting accordingly. Maybe we
should simplify it.
Or maybe, just try our battery of heuristics (file extension etc) on
File>Open and reserve File>Import when the user wants to force a
particular filter to be used (maybe, because you have, for some odd
reason, an excel file under the extension .txt or something weird like
that).

after some minutes of looking for a "paste" button or menu entry I
pasted the data using CTRL+V, Very good!!
(Do we have this in any manual??)

Some how Gretl is clever (in the other ways to open the file), to do an
Import before presenting data to us. You cannot open in GUI a non Gretl
file (only if you can import it).
Going with the GUI, you /File/Open data/Import/text_CVS the file opens
correctly.
In my OpenSUSE 12.2 64bit, I cannot even list the file in the Open User
file menu, because is not .gdt.
I did rename the file to file.gdt and observed the same error you got.

Yes, under /File/Open data/User file... one shouldn't see any .dat files,
the file-open dialog should filter so that only .gdt files show up.
However, depending on the set-up of the dialog it may be possible to type
in an unlisted name such as "file.dat", in which case you'd get the error
that Ignacio saw.
