Definitely interested!
Good!
On defining and selecting lists:
The problem here is that AFAIK there is currently no way to
review the lists that are defined. Maybe it's the right time to
add the named lists also to the session icon view?
I'm not sure what you'd do with lists in that context. But what
I've now done is change the new "Define list" item to "Define or
edit list", and if any lists are already defined you get a
pull-down selector. This provides a means of examining and
changing the content of existing lists.

I very much like that functionality. What about alternatives to
a pop-up menu: drag-and-drop, arrow buttons? (Not all of them I
mean, and caveat: I haven't tried the current implementation
yet.)
Drag and drop is awkward because drag is already used for multiple
selection in that context. Arrow buttons: where would you put
them? IMO they would clutter/break the design of the dialog.
(Note: the popup uses arrow images.)

Also nice. The term "select listed variables" strikes me as a little
confusing or misleading, though. Maybe "select list members"? (Not
perfect either I admit.)
I agree that text is less than ideal. What's intended is:
"configure the selection of series in the main window based on
choice of a named list". How best to say that in three words or
less, I'm not sure ;-)
I repeat: AFAICS that dialog with pop-down menu would currently
be the only place where the defined lists would actually be
visible.
With the modification mentioned above, they're also
visible/editable in their own right. (In CVS, snapshots to follow
shortly.)
